Most Valuable Rider Award

Established in 1999, the Most Valuable Rider Award is presented annually to one male and one female member of the University of Toronto Mountain Bike Team.  The recipients will have exhibited true leadership both on the race course, and within the team.  They will have shown the ability and enthusiasm not only to have raced at a high level, but more importantly, to have contributed to the team on a grander scale.

The MVR trophy depicts an early mountain biker racing down a trail, no doubt experiencing the exhilaration of the sport.  Its base is engraved with the names of past winners.  The selection of the winners is decided by a secret ballot that is held at the end of the race season.  The trophy is awarded at the annual team banquet that follows the season.

Sport of Life Award

Established in 1999, the Sport of Life Award celebrates and recognizes a team member who best exemplifies the core values and the philosophy of the team and what its founders hoped would be passed along through the years -- to ride, and to have fun.  Our sport and its races take us to some beautiful forests across Southern Ontario.  What adds to the great venues are the great teammates that surround us.  We do race, but winning is far from the most important goal -- having fun is.  The Spirit Award winner may not be the fastest racer on the team, but his or her team spirit and decication are highly valued and appreciated.

The trophy is a glass pitcher which sits on a base engraved with the names of past winners.  The winner of this award is decided by secret ballot at the end of the race season.  The trophy is awarded at the annual team banquet that follows the season.  Tradition dictates that the award pitcher is filled with champagne and the award winner takes the first sip; it is then passed to each member of the team.
