The Ontario University Cup Race Series is in its 19th year of existence.
The series was created because mountain bike racing did not exist at the university or college level in Ontario, Quebec, or anywhere else in Canada. Many Ontario universities and colleges (As well as our friend's at McGill University in Montreal) now have recognized mountain bike clubs and teams. The series is organized by the Ontario University Mountain Bike Race Council (OUMRC) which is composed of university, college students and alumni.
If
you know mountain bikers who are attending other universities or colleges have them
find out if their school has a University Cup (OUMRC) rep, if not, why
not get involved yourself? See our contact page for more info.
We have fun! New riders are MORE than welcome!!
Eligibility
& Point System
University
students from all Canadian universities and Colleges are welcome to participate. However,
only schools with OUMRC reps will be eligible for race points. Alumni are also welcome, but their points will not be included for overall team scores.
University mountain bike clubs from schools in the United States are more
than welcome to join us, but we ask them to contact the OUMRC beforehand.
If you have mountain biking friends who are attending a university that
does not yet have a recognized club, have them visit our "Contacts" link.
For more information on this race series please contact David Wright at
david.wright@utoronto.ca
All students currently registered in a Canadian university or college are welcome
to come out. All that is required is a mountain bike in working order
and of course a helmet.
Hope to see you at the races!
Point
System: Divisions:
There
are two Divisions. "A" and "B", for both female and male riders. "A" division races are
approximately 90 minutes long while "B" division races are around
45- 60 minutes in length. The "B" Division is open to newer/ first time racers. If you have raced before you are encouraged to race "A". If you have raced in any races in expert level or higher, you must race "A" division.
Team Champions: Team Championship is determined by adding the points from the top 3 finishes that each school posts in each division (Mens/Womans "A" and Mens/Womans "B")over the 4 University Cup events.
Individual Champions:
Individual championships are determined by adding the total points attained
by the individual rider over the 4 University Cup events.
Division Change:
Racers are encouraged to move from "B" to Expert Division if they
are clearly dominant. If a rider is naturally strong and has met the above criteria he/she *may* move to A level but are entitled to continue in B level.
**NEW** riders may bring %50 of the points they have earned
in the Beginner Division to the Expert division if they feel they are ready to move on to Expert(If done so before the second race). All their "B" points
will be go to team Championship.
NOTE - There will be no crit or time-trial event in the 2019 season.
